1 - 3 July 2017: Red Bull Air Race Over a million spectators crowd on to the banks of the Danube to watch the spectacular Red Bull Air Race, an exciting competition in which the world's top pilots race against one other in a race based on speed, precision and skill. The objective for the pilots is to navigate a challenging obstacle course in the sky in the fastest possible time. They fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of specially designed 19m (62ft) high pylons, known as air gates . Pilots compete in knockout rounds with the two fastest pilots going head to head in the grand final to be crowned overall champion. The event in Budapest starts and finishes at the iconic Chain Bridge in the heart of this magnificent city and - always a great crowd-pleaser - pilots must tackle the daunting feat of flying beneath the city's famous bridge. The great thing about the event, which goes a long way in explaining its popularity, is the fact that spectators can really experience all the action close-up. This event in Budapest is one of a number of races around the world that make up the Red Bull Air Race competition.
